1:11 | [NASB] who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not {teach} for the sake of sordid gain. |
1:12 | [NASB] One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." |
1:13 | [NASB] This testimony is true. For this reason reprove them severely so that they may be sound in the faith, |
1:14 | [NASB] not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. |
1:15 | [NASB] To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. |
1:16 | [NASB] They profess to know God, but by {their} deeds they deny {Him,} being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed. |

2:1 | [NASB] But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. |
2:2 | [NASB] Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. |
2:3 | [NASB] Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, |
2:4 | [NASB] so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, |
2:5 | [NASB] {to be} sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. |
2:6 | [NASB] Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; |
2:7 | [NASB] in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, {with} purity in doctrine, dignified, |
2:8 | [NASB] sound {in} speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. |
2:9 | [NASB] {Urge} bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, |
2:10 | [NASB] not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect. |
2:11 | [NASB] For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, |
2:12 | [NASB] instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, |
2:13 | [NASB] looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, |
2:14 | [NASB] who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. |
2:15 | [NASB] These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you. |

3:1 | [NASB] Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, |
3:2 | [NASB] to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men. |
3:3 | [NASB] For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. |
3:4 | [NASB] But when the kindness of God our Savior and {His} love for mankind appeared, |
3:5 | [NASB] He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, |
3:6 | [NASB] whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, |
3:7 | [NASB] so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to {the} hope of eternal life. |
3:8 | [NASB] This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men. |
3:9 | [NASB] But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. |
3:10 | [NASB] Reject a factious man after a first and second warning, |
3:11 | [NASB] knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned. |
