Warren Y: Christian Exodus -- Mixture of Church and State

Warren Y
3/4/2006

Christian Exodus. What is it? What does it do? Christian Exodus is a group of Christian activists who want to create a “righteous” government based off Christian principles, one city at a time. So, where are they starting? In South Carolina they plan to take it over.

Christian Exodus wants to take over sheriff’s offices, city councils, and school boards. Eventually, they say, they will have control of South Carolina. Then they will defy the Supreme Court ruling of separation of church and state.

“We’re going to force a constitutional crisis. If necessary we will” split “from the nation,” said Cory Burnell, 29, the founder of Christian Exodus. He founded it in November 2003. Burnell and Christian Exodus have found 2 cities in South Carolina for prime old-fashioned takeover. They want to have 2000 activists in one city and 500 in the other.

This group is trying to control. Their acts are selfishly brought out. “You don’t find the word ‘control’ in the scriptures,” said Cleats Blackmon, treasurer and director of missions at the Greer Baptist Assn. “The basic mission of the church is to proclaim God’s redeeming love through the example of Jesus Christ.” He doubts that Christian Exodus’ actions will appeal to the region’s Christians. So you choose, Yes or No?
