Introduction
1.
Deception can be very destructive.
2. The
truth can be powerfully liberating.
3. The
tongue is the strongest muscle in the body—with the strength to set a forest
ablaze. (James 3:5)
4. The
ninth commandment—“And you shall not bear false witness against your
neighbor.”
What does this commandment
mean?
1. The primary context of this
commandment is the courtroom.
2. Lack of truth and justice in the courtroom
leads to lack of truth and justice in the wider community.
3. This commandment extends
beyond the courtroom
Why was this commandment
given?
1. Why does this command have the added
phrase “against your neighbor”?
2. We can’t have healthy relationships.
3. Truth
telling is particularly important today because of two reasons.
4. When
we keep the ninth commandment, we reflect what God is like: Father, Son, and
Spirit.
