謝謝妳，沒有給我壓力

小女兒有機會擔任某營會初中生的輔導，回家後感慨的對老媽發出這句肺腑之言：
「謝謝妳，沒有給我壓力。」

這怎麼說呢？原來她發現這幾個孩子，聚在一起談的居然是入大學測試的SAT考試分數，以及希望暑期能進入約翰斯霍普金斯大學(Johns Hopkins University)的青年資優班(the Center for Talented Youth (CTY)就讀。

才初中耶！彼此對未來進哪所大學，鎖定的目標是那些長青籐名校。
幾個孩子互相競爭、互相比較！
這些，是誰教的？父母沒有責任？能置身事外嗎？

究竟什麼叫天才？
全A、躋身名校就算天才？
出人頭地、將人踩在腳底就算天才？

記得當年出國前，幾位朋友聚集送行，有位從小號稱天才的康，冒出這樣的感觸：
「天才又怎樣？到頭來不就和妳我四周的人差不多？」

留學生時期，放眼看到的〝菁英人士〞，許多居然可以用〝衣冠禽獸〞來描素。

孩子從小，我們兩老就要他們不要和別人比！要比，和自己比，今天比昨天進步就好。
要走上怎樣的前途？繪畫怎樣的人生？能強求嗎？
真走上父母劃定的藍圖又怎樣？孩子快樂嗎？
若不是走在神所預定的道路上，將繞行多少的冤枉路?!

女兒將Sara Bareilles作詞譜曲的“King of Anything”介紹給我。她說，歌唱的對象可以是跋扈的上司、朋友，也可以是跋扈的父母。在她身邊的，她就看到不少活在父母陰影籠罩下、不快樂的朋友。

這歌我越聽越愛，就試著翻譯出來，當然只能是意譯，要能依著譜子唱，還沒這功力也！

現將中英歌詞，加上YouTube上Sara Bareilles唱的，獻給每位父母、以及找到自己定位的孩子。
