CRRC Qingdao Sifang won Sri Lanka DMU deal

CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. has signed 9 groups of DMU (90 units) supply contract with the Sri Lanka railway department recently. This is the 4th DMU export deal CRRC Qingdao Sifang won in Sri Lanka.

The 9 groups of DMU are introduced to form with 2 engine units and 8 passive units, with highest speed of 120km/h, will be used in Mountain Line, the only wide-track railway in Sri Lanka. The new DMU will be designed for local geological and weather conditions. Based on the customized DMU technologies adopted in trains exported to Sri Lanka before, the new DMU will integrate modern control system, advanced bogie technologies, new type air conditioner technologies and passenger information system, and ergonomics-based interior decoration, in order to increase service quality.

Sri Lanka is an island country lies in the Indian Ocean of South Asia. The railway is the most preferred transport method of local people. In 2000, 2008, and 2009, CRRC Qingdao Sifang has exported 3 batches of 43 DMUs (300 units in total), accounting for more than 50% of all trains in operation of Sri Lanka. CRRC Qingdao Sifang thus becomes the largest vendor of railway passenger transport equipment of Sri Lanka. (Lin Gang)
