Shared book houses appear in Qingdao

Around the crowded tourist spots including Zhongshan Park and Eight Great Passes, recently a few wooden book houses attracted the attention of many tourists and citizens. “Now Qingdao also has “shared book houses!” “ I will take two books back home. Next time I will bring two books from home and put them into the house.” The reporter found at the site that little book houses were very liked.

4 middle school students launch “Little Q Book House”

In Zhongshan Park, the reporter met 4 initiators of shared little book houses, who were busy at that time. They are Xu Tongyu and Shan Weining from the Qingdao No. 26 Middle School, Jiao Yuntong from Qingdao No. 7 Middle School and Wang Bozheng from Qingdao Experimental Junior Middle School. “When we moved this summer, I found a lot of books I’ve read before. They were packed by my mom and put into the storeroom. I think it is such a waste. These books are very well-written and more people should read them. Wang Bozheng, the junior school freshman, discussed with three good friends of his. They thought out the idea of opening shared book houses. The idea is to share books, which are put out for everyone.

Jiao Yuntong and Xu Tongyu said to us with smiles on their faces: “The book house is named Little Q Book House for two reasons. Firstly, it is the initial of “Qing”. Secondly, select three English words, which start with the letter Q to promote our reading concept, namely, quiet, quick and quality.

The cultural Qingdao is liked by every one

This time, 4 little friends have set up 5 Little Q Book Houses nearby Yinghua Avenue in Zhongshan Park and Princess Building in Eight Great Passes. The book houses are of the similar size of a mailbox. The glass door is fastened by a small latch but not locked. Every book house can hold thirty to forty books. Tourists and citizens can borrow and read them freely and even bring them back home. Little volunteers hope readers who bring the books back home can bring back another book as exchange. Take away a book and leave another book, so every one can share reading.

Wang Bozheng said: “To make these 5 Little Q Book Houses, we have taken out our new year gift-money. Book houses are made of antiseptic wood and also applied with anti-corrosion paint. We hope people who like reading can use them batter. This afternoon, the shared book house welcomed the first batch of books as well as readers.” Mr. Li, a tourist from Xi’an told us: “I don’t know that Xiao Hong and Xiao Jun have lived in Qingdao until I read the introduction cards made by the kids. We come to Qingdao for its red tiles and green trees. However I like more a cultural Qingdao.”

Shared books, the best scenery

Such as Shared bikes, umbrellas, power banks, folding stools and fitness rooms , more and more idle items are associated with “sharing”. About shared book houses, these 4 junior middle school students said with confidence: “Qingdao is a city of civilization and caring and has a lot of caring brands such as Wei Chen. It is unnecessary to doubt the quality of Qingdao citizens. We will collect old books on a regular basis in schools and communities and supplies energy on time to the book houses.”
