A symposium on China's national standards and standardization for the building economy was held July 10 in Chengdu.

The event was sponsored by the Chengdu Municipal Commission of Commerce (CMCC) and Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, and supported by the Chengdu Association of Building Economy Promotion and Chengdu Institute of Standardization.

Government officials at national, provincial and city levels, experts and professionals from the commercial real estate industry, in line with relevant national standards, exchanged views on how to develop the sector and improve the services for commercial buildings.

By far, in the city there have been 30 super grade-A and grade-A office buildings, which cover an area amounting to 2,560,000 square meters, with an average occupancy rate of 80%. They have created 100,000 jobs, of which 40% are for senior executives and top technical personnel of multinational companies. Among the buildings, 19 are big tax payers, each generating more than RMB100 million annually in tax revenue to the national and local governments.

According to an official from CMCC, since 2015 the city has been making greater efforts to promote the local building economy and modern services, and CMCC has established business partnership with 8 domestic cities and 6 foreign countries, including Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Singapore. It has helped over 270 local companies to go overseas and set up strategic cooperative ties with their foreign partners in around 70 projects.
