History, scenery, industry: western province has it all

Sichuan, in the hinterland of Southwest China, has been historically known as the "Land of Abundance", blessed with a wealth of diverse resources.

Because of its position, it also serves as an important location for both the Belt and Road Initiative and Yangtze River Economic Belt.

And it is the home province of Deng Xiaoping, chief architect of China's reform and opening-up. Deng is remembered for his painstaking efforts in leading the country's transformation drive, starting in 1978.

Sichuan has rich natural resources, such as water, natural gas, ferro-vanadium, rare earth and lithium, phosphorus and well salt.

Endowed with great cultural and tourism resources, Sichuan has 1,838 giant pandas, accounting for 77.2 percent of the country's total, and five UNESCO World Heritage sites including Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area, Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area, Mount Emei Scenic Area, Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System and Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries.

Sichuan is the home to numerous intellectuals. The province has 59 academicians, 3 million professionals in science and technology, 119 colleges and universities, which turn out some 400,000 graduates every year.

The province has become one of the three major power equipment production bases and one of the four major electronic information industrial bases in the country, and is on a sound industrial foundation to develop electronic information, automobile manufacturing and oil and gas chemical industries. Sichuan's power generation output has been No 1 in the world for seven consecutive years.

Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, now produces 50 percent of the world's iPads.

Half of the world's laptop computer chips are also encapsulated and tested in the city.

In the years ahead, Sichuan will make more efforts to achieve its goal of industrial development ¡X "Billions and Trillions Projects" ¡X to create clusters in the fields of electronic information, intelligent manufacturing, new materials, food and beverage and the energy and chemicals.

The digital economy will also be actively cultivated.

Sichuan is serving not only as the transportation hub in western China but also as a transit hub on major international thoroughfares.

Sichuan is opening its arms to friends from abroad: Ninety pairs of international friendship cities and 179 pairs of friendship and cooperation relations have been established, 347 Fortune 500 companies have opened offices in Sichuan.
