Every winter, the black-necked cranes fly into the Dashanbao nature reserve in northeast Yunnan’s Zhaoshan City one after another, presenting a spectacular scene for locals.

As of January 10, a total of 1,433 black-necked cranes have reached. Strolling in the Datongbao reserve nowadays, visitors can hear the cranes chirping gently and see their graceful figures to and fro. 

The black-necked crane is a rare and endangered bird species that has been under state protection in China. Built in 2003, the Datongbao reserve is a largest wintering habitat for black-necked cranes nationwide.

In recent years, local efforts in afforestation, wetland restoration, food supply to the birds and relocation projects have made the Datongbao area favored by the cranes and other migratory birds.
