Kunming, capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province, known as "Spring City" for its balmy weather, is now a popular tourist destination with its cool weather during the hot summer.

Yunnan announced the reopening of cross-provincial travels on July 22.

"We came here for the cool weather. I'm from Jiangsu Province. The temperature there is above 35 degrees Celsius. Although it is also hot here today and the sun is a little bit harsh, the climate is still very comfortable," said Shen Yang, a tourist.

Since the beginning of August, as students are having summer vacations, the proportion of family trips and student self-guided trips has increased significantly, and the overall booking volume has continued to increase.

As families and students take health, leisure, comfort and convenience as the major considerations for their trips, Kunming tourism practitioners have made timely readjustment to meet their needs and launched various preferential packages, which has been well received.

In order to promote the recovery of Kunming's tourism market, the city authority has arranged a series of activities in response to new consuming trends such as increasing self-driving tours, and greater preference for healthy destinations.

"The self-drive tour is quite popular. The other key word for the tourists to Kunming is health. The picturesque scenery and fresh air allow them to enjoy a peaceful life and nourish their lungs and hearts. We have arranged a series of activities to boost the night economy, which has achieved fruitful results, and built some theme parks to facilitate the establishment of an international, high-end and smart traveling mode," said Zhou Hongbin, vice mayor of Kunming City.

As of July 21, 330 of the 332 A-level tourist attractions in the province have reopened, 503 of the 610 star-rated hotels have resumed operations, 587 of the 1,047 travel agencies have resumed operation and more than 6,000 entertainment venues have reopened.
