Sporting events and fitness facility unveilings were held across China to mark the 12th National Fitness Day of China, which falls on Saturday.

The theme this year is to promote national fitness to help realize a prosperous society in all respects of life.

A playground was recently completed in a rural village in Menglian County, Pu’er City, southwest China's Yunnan Province. Every evening, women dance to songs, the elderly and children exercise with the fitness facilities, and boys play basketball on the playground.

In the past, playgrounds and fitness facilities were rarely seen in rural villages in the province. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), the Yunnan provincial government invested 390 million yuan (about 56 million U.S. dollars) to build playgrounds and fitness facilities in 25 rural counties, to realize the full coverage of sports facilities all over the province.
