4/17/2017

When you are tired of the hustle and bustle of cities, going to mountains and hearing birds’ singing might be a better way to clean your mind. In Yingjiang County, west Yunnan’s Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, there is a hornbill valley which is dubbed as “Paradise for Bird Lovers”.
Who is in the valley?
Geographically, Yingjiang is located in the southern end of Hengduan Mountains. It has more than 550 bird species. In the Hornbill Valley, there are great hornbills, wheathed hornbills, oriental pied hornbills and etc. No wonder local people often say with pride, “In China, you can only find wild hornbills here.” However, the valley is not an exclusive habitat for hornbills. Collared falconets, oriental hobbies, white-crested laughingthrs, brown-breasted bulbuls and other birds are also attracting photographers and bird lovers.
How to go:
The Hornbill Valley is located in Yunnan Provincial Tongbiguan Nature Reserve. It is about 70 kilometers away from the government seat of Yingjiang County. So driving is highly recommended.
Admission: 60 yuan/person
Tour service: There are tour guide services in the valley. Usually, guides take tourists to Niaotang which is a good spot for bird photography. It takes 40 minutes by foot. You can also choose to ride a motorbike and the trip will be shortened by half.
Food: Food and drinks are available at farmers’ houses several kilometers away from the valley. (By Cao Yunbo, Xiong Yan & Chu Donghua)
