A novel rose species, which is cultivated by Yunnan Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences in the past four years, was officially named as "Aung San Suu Kyi Rose" in Kunming on May 17.

Yunnan Party Secretary Chen Hao, Yunnan Governor Ran Chengfa and Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi attended the naming ceremony.

"Aung San Suu Kyi Rose, with a compact shrub, can be planted in both pots and outdoor courtyards, or cultivated as cut flowers. Blossoms are often red and petite. On one pedicel there grow 4 to 13 blossoms with a diameter of 4 to 5 centimeters in 34 to 41 petals." A certificate presented to the state counsellor reads.

Before the naming ceremony, Chen Hao held talks with Aung San Suu Kyi and the two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in interconnectivity, economy, energy, border security and more.

Aung San Suu Kyi’s tour in Yunnan came after she took part in the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.
