Mushroom growing and gathering now is a huge industry in Yunnan province, and every place tends to have one or two types of mushrooms that they particularly specialize in.

The Wenshan automonous county of the Zhuang and Miao minorities in southeastern Yunnan put their effort on artificially cultivating matsutake, a rare but nutritive type of mushroom, based on their local soil and climate.

Benefited by a business model of combining agricultural enterprises, cooperatives and farmers together, more than 2,500 greenhouses have been built up over the past a few years.

So far, about 1,200 households in Wenshan have been engaged into this industy which can generate an annual income of approximately 25,000 yuan for each one of them.
