An event that replayed the ancient family feast of local people living by the picturesque Dianchi Lake in Kunming, the capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province vowed visitors with its elements of intangible cultural heritage.

Intended to mark the fourth Culture and Natural Heritage Day of China that fell on Saturday, the theme of this year's event was "Cultural Inheritance and Healthy Living".

At sunset, the clan feast started with dancers from the Yi ethnic group beating drums. Different specialties such as goat's cheese, Roast Erkuai, a kind of rice pancake and rice noodles with mushrooms, were prepared for the guests.

"The Hani, Dai and Jingpo ethnic groups eat flowering rice or dyed glutinous rice. They use flowers to dye glutinous rice into a variety of colors. This time we have made seven colors. You can taste the flavor of flowers in the cooked rice. And the flowering rice is on the list of intangible cultural heritage. You couldn't find those ingredients in other places. The moment you eat it, you realize you are back in Yunnan, your beautiful homeland in Yunnan," said Ren Huaican, founder of ancient Dian Clan Feast.

At the banquet, the old, the young, family members and friends would be sitting around tables, and everyone would raise their bamboo cups with rice wine in it, and would drink it all to their enjoyment.

"I think this family feast is different. Despite the epidemic breakout this year, it is warmer than previous years. You see, our dishes or our culture, are all related to intangible cultural heritage. This is a kind of cultural heritage, a kind of food heritage," said Huang Shaocheng, a local resident.

In addition, all the dishes and bowls used in the banquet were listed in the national intangible cultural heritage. They were made of Jianshui purple pottery. It could be seen that, whether it was dishes or utensils, the host was retaining the splendid tradition of intangible cultural heritage while advancing with the times, combining it with the aesthetics of the new era to make Yunnan food culture glow.
