A key tunnel on the Dali-Lincang Railway in southwest China's Yunnan Province was drilled through on Thursday, which cemented certainty about the completion of the project - an important part of the China-Myanmar railway.

The Dabangwu Tunnel is a first-level risk project measuring 6,316 meters in its total length and is located in the Yunxian County of Lincang City in Yunnan Province. The soft rocks surrounding the location poses a safety risk as one wrong move by workers can cause deformation that will lead to the tunnel collapsing.

After over four years of hard work, the construction workers succeeded in tunneling through the mountain as scheduled.

"At present, all projects with the Dali-Lincang Railway are progressing steadily as planned. The construction of tunnels has achieved 99.6 percent of completion, and 99.3 percent of the bridges on the rail line have finished construction. 84.5 percent of the initially designed full investment of the railway has been put in place, and the rest of the tunnels are expected to be drilled through one by one soon," said Lei Fei, an engineer with the China Railway Kunming Group.

The Dali-Lincang Railway is an important route for Yunnan's railway network. The railway measures 202 kilometers long in total and will run through Weishan County and Nanjian County and pass over the Lancang River before reaching Lincang City.

Upon its completion, it will be Lincang's first railway and will shorten the traveling time between Kunming and Lincang from the previous five hours to three. In addition, the Dali-Lincang Railway will offer convenience to China's connection with neighboring countries.
