rice paddy painting featuring a giant dinosaur image in Lufeng County of southwest China's Yunnan Province, the site of numerous Jurassic dinosaur discoveries, has created a visual spectacle that is attracting throngs of tourists.

The rice landscape covers about 1.3 hectares with a dinosaur and coconut trees representing Lufeng in the Jurassic period, fishes standing for a rice-fish green ecological system and yellow ribbons symbolizing rivers.

"It technologically depends on the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and is designed by a design company. It takes green, the color of China's super rice variety 'Chujing' as the first layer of paint and uses different colors of rice to form patterns and decorate," said Liu Bingshun, an agronomist of the Lufeng Agro-tech Extension Center.

The giant dinosaur image has led to an influx of visitors from across the country.

"It's my first time to see this colorful paddy. It's very creative," said Li Yunnan, a tourist.

In recent years, the county has greatly promoted the fish-rice system that integrates aquaculture and rice farming with 11 townships and villages having taking this practice in over 1,300 hectares of rice paddies. Apart from cultivating rice and fish simultaneously, the county has also attempted to grow shrimps, bullfrogs, eels, and lobsters in the paddy fields.
