Agricultural mechanization helps secure bumper yields during harvest season in Yunnan

Farmers in Yunnan are enjoying bumper harvests, thanks to agricultural mechanization which has helped boost yields during the autumn harvest season.

Farmers in Sanchahe Town in Qujing City, southwest China's Yunnan Province, are also enjoying a bumper harvest. Since last year, the town has started to introduce high quality rice varieties. This, plus the adoption of agricultural mechanization, has brought the yield per hectare to as much as 10,800 kilograms this autumn.

In Shuangjiang County, Yunnan's Lincang City, farmers are racing against the clock to harvest ratoon crops. The estimated yield will exceed 700 tons, higher than the level of previous years.

Local cooperatives in Shuangjiang have adopted agricultural mechanization in recent years, which has led to reduced planting costs of about 7,500 to 9,000 yuan (around 1117 to 1340 U.S. dollars) per hectare.

As of now, over 14 million mu (about 932 hectares) of autumn grain crops has been harvested in Yunnan Province. The encouraging trend indicates expected growth in both grain output per unit of land area and total crop yields in the province.
