A baby Asian elephant was rescued on Sunday after it got trapped in a pond in the southwest China city of Pu'er, Yunnan Province.

The accident happened at 22:30 on October 17 when a baby elephant was found falling into a pond, unable to get out, by the forest service center staff members, who went to see an adult Asian elephant stealing food in a family.

As there was a herd of elephants crying around the baby elephant, the service workers withdrew to a high place to watch it and organize the rescue after daybreak.

At 11:20, on October 18, the baby elephant was taken out of the pond. The service workers treated the bruises and fed it with milk, banana and water and took it to seek its mother.

It turned out that the baby elephant is about three to four months old, standing 1.2 meters. The cute baby elephant offered cooperation during the entire process of rescue. When the workers drove it near the elephant herd, it quickly found its mother.

The wild Asian elephants, under the state first-class protection, are very rare. The total number is about 300 in China, mainly distributed in the border areas of Pu'er and Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province.
