Shen Haixiong, member of the Standing Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC, visited the International Department•GDTV World of Guangdong Radio and Television yesterday morning to communicate with the front-line reporters working on international communication and documentary production.

“At the key point of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, South China Documentary released two quality documentaries ‘Retrace the Maritime Silk Road’ and ‘Impression of Maritime Silk Road’,” said Shen, expressing his gratitude to the efforts made by South China Documentary.

Shen stressed that the “Belt and Road” initiative represents President Xi Jinping’s diplomatic thinking and his concepts of global governance, which embodies his broad-mindedness and foresight as the leader of China.

The two documentaries are both based on the theme of the Maritime Silk Road with one telling the history of the Maritime Silk Road and the other telling the status quo—the series of exploration and innovation of Guangdong.

“Guangdong, as the country's most populous province and its largest economy, should strive to keep its cultural soft power aligned with its economic strength. In terms of the production of documentaries, Guangdong has the foundation and the potential to be at the forefront,” said Shen.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of South China Documentary. Shen gave a thumb up to the production team and required that the seminar of South China Documentary should become better and better, turning into a cultivation base for documentary masters.

Zhang Huijian, head of Guangdong Radio and Television station, promised to organize and hold the seminar of South China Documentary to its best, to produce more quality documentaries and to increase the influence of Guangdong Radio and Television and South China Documentary across the country.
