Video - Jason’s love letter to #Dali, #Yunnan

Recently, Jason Pym from the UK published his first Chinese book, A Dali Sketch Book, in which he presents his understanding of and love to Dali where he lives now.

Dali is a city located in west Yunnan Province and is famous for its beautiful landscapes and profound culture. More than ten years ago, Jason came and settled in Dali. Since then, he has been fascinated by the life in the city.

Influenced by his father, Jason has been a big fan of Chinese culture since childhood. When he was a college student, he majored in Chinese language and got a chance to learn Chinese in north China𠏋 Tianjin.

Jason𠏋 first impression about Yunnan came from a documentary called China: Beyond the Clouds, which demonstrates unique landscapes and customs he had never seen before. In 2000, he came to work in Kunming, provincial capital of Yunnan and met a local girl, Wan Ke. Years later, they met again in Shanghai when both of them moved there to work. Soon after, they fell in love and got married.

After spending their honeymoon in northwest Yunnan𠏋 Nujiang, Jason and Wan Ke went to Dali for a short stay before heading back to Shanghai. Sitting outside a cafe one day in the warm and comfortable sunshine, they made a decision: say goodbye to the pressure in Shanghai and settle in Dali, running a cafe, cooking, and painting, do whatever they love to.

According to Jason, their life of Dali always reminds Wang Ke and him of the beautiful childhood memories. Jason loves to spend time to observe animals and plants, talk to locals, and write and draw about them in Dali. And many readers are impressed by Jason𠏋 curiosity, passion and the British sense of humor after reading his books.
