5/15/2017

The International Symposium on Integrated Governance of Large-scale Disaster and Economic Risks, organized by Beijing Normal University, Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone and Global Risk Forum GRF Davos, opened at Wuzhou Guest House on Saturday.

The event was attended by more than 100 top experts and scholars worldwide, including Robert Glasser, special representative of the U.N. secretary general for disaster risk reduction, Michael Havbro Nielsen, representative of GRF Davos.

In the opening speech delivered by Professor Nielsen, he expressed belief that the symposium would serve as a great platform for people to exchange views on the governance of risks.

His speech was followed by a signing ceremony of a Cooperation Framework Agreement by the Authority of Qianhai, the Foundation of Global Forum Davos and Beijing Normal University (ICSU Future Earth-Integrated Risk Governance Project), which stipulates that the international symposium on integrated governance of risks be held every two years by Qianhai and GRF Davos starting in 2019.

In the plenary session of the symposium, experts and scholars from home and abroad shared their new thinking on green development and response to large-scale disasters and risks.

The two-day symposium also included thematic sessions and panel discussions.
