Qingdao: Liu Zhongmin named as China News People of the Year in Sciences Field

Academician Liu Zhongmin, the director of Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (QIBBT), was named one of ten 2017 China News People of the Year in Sciences Field in selection result released recently.

The institute and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (DICP) jointly started the in-depth integrated development since March of 2017; Liu became the director of both institutes. Since then, pursuing the goal of building the QIBBT into a world class A research institute, Liu grabbed the opportunity of building clean energy national lab and did systematic work in improving major structure, deepening system and mechanism reform, and integrating advanced resources, to increase the institutes’ ability of meeting service demand of national key projects and local economic and social development.

The qualified products were produced in 100,000 ton/year Syngas Conversion to Ethanol Industry Model project, jointly undertaken by DICP and Shannxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co Ltd and led by Liu on 11th January 2017, and the purity of the product reached 99.71%. Major indexes of the product reached or exceeded the designed level. Relevant technologies and results are introduced to be used in economic driver transformation development strategy of Qingdao.
