Qingdao brings fashion for Badaguan building cluster

District Shinan, Qingdao is going to open Norway-Finland experience hall, England culture experience hall and halls alike in Badaguan building cluster in 2018 to offer a city guest room for visitors to enjoy Slow Life after opening 14 halls like light of geo exhibition hall and modern art exhibition hall.

The Badaguan building cluster, to the south of Taiping Hill of District Shinan and between Huiquanjiao and Taipingjiao, covers Badaguan area and Taipingjiao area. Among them, buildings in Taipingjiao area can be dated back to 1919, roads and buildings in Badaguan area began to be constructed as early as in 1920s and formed scale in 1930s. The cluster has over 300 European style historic buildings, covers an area of 145,000sqm.

Most of ancient buildings in Dabaguan area were not allowed for visitors in the past due to various reasons. Today, in “Qingdao Meets Milan” restaurant at Zhanshan No.2 Road, visitors can sip Milan Taste coffee when enjoying warm sunshine. The buildings of the yard where the restaurant was constructed in 1925, designed by German architect Harlins, it is the largest villa yard in Taipingjiao area. It has held several fashion lectures, fashion shows and widely popular among residents and visitors.

German cook Samir who has visited many countries worked more than half a year in German Dark Forest Restaurant in Taipingjiao area of Badaguan. In his eyes, Badaguan area not only has well preserved historic building with diverse cultures, but also has bay and sand beach with romantic colors, all of them bring unique city image, very open and tolerant.

Qingdao has entrusted Architectural Design and Research Insitute of Tsinghua University to compose Protect Plan for Modern Buildings in Badaguan of Qingdao in past years. The city has obtained over CNY33 million national relics protection special fund to recover the building cluster under the principle of Repairing the Ancient Building as It Was and Making Use of It in Protection, and will open more buildings to visitors.
