Mexican contestant Michelle Hewitt Zapata was crowned Miss Tourism in eastern China's Qingdao, with contestants from Canada and China winning the first and second runner-up.

QINGDAO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Miss Tourism World 2019 Global Finals reached its climax Sunday night in eastern China's Qingdao City, with Mexican contestant Michelle Hewitt Zapata winning the crown, and contestants from Canada and China the first and second runner-up.

Co-hosted by Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the organizing committee of the Miss Tourism World Global Finals, the 12-day event was participated by contestants from 67 countries and regions, such as Russia, the United States and France, and involved activities such as photo exhibitions, fashion shows and an opening ceremony.

Considered the world's third largest pageant after Miss Universe and Miss World, the event aims to promote cultural exchanges and tourism cooperation between countries.

Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism said the event is an opportunity to promote the city's rich tourism resources, culture and history to the world.
