Nighttime economy has begun to take hold in China to enliven the local economy after months of stoppage due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ancient town of Jimo, Qingdao City, has launched a four-month cultural nighttime program that integrates eating, accommodation, travel, entertainment and shopping.

The activity started at 20:00 Wednesday. Despite the drizzle, the activities went on without a hitch. The Han Dress show, dragon and drum dances and folk song singing attracted ceaseless flow of people.

"Fantastic! It is really enjoyable as the performances featured the blend of Chinese and Western culture and traditional and modern.It is a surprise to see such performances in a small ancient town,"said Zhong, a local resident.

In addition, the ancient city offered all kinds of local delicacies, cultural creations and dazzling handicrafts.

"We are a new bar, less than a month old. We really need such activities to increase our exposure. I hope that the activities will help us increase exposure and bring more guests," said Xu Xiaochen, owner of a bar.

As one of the first batches of pedestrian streets renovated and upgraded in Shandong Province, the ancient city of Jimo integrates "tradition with modernity, culture with fashion" to create a unique nighttime economy model.

During the event, the city will make use of the folk song season, beer festivals, and other promotion events to make the nighttime economy boom. Tourists and local residents will see the fashion and vitality of the ancient city that will never sleep.

"We hope that the continuous promotion of new brand venues and events will promote the vigorous development of the nighttime economy, and continue to lengthen the industrial chain of the "Night Ancient City" so as to boost consumer confidence, stabilize consumption expectations, and promote economic growth. People may also have a place to relax in the summer night and enrich their cultural life," said Zhang Min, a staff member of the development and service center of Jimo.
