The Chinese government has enacted preferential measures on electric vehicles in rural areas in an effort to boost sales after the COVID-19 epidemic eased.
China's ministries of industry and information technology, agriculture and rural affairs and commerce joined hands in promoting the electric vehicles to the rural areas, with a ceremony held on Friday in Qingdao City, east China's Shandong Province.
The vehicles on display are mostly new models, fashionable and long in battery life, well meeting the demand of the rural areas, with the mainstream vehicles able to run 300 kilometers for one charge.
The automakers are offering varying discounts, on average 2,000-5,000 yuan, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), which will be holding such events in other rural areas from late July.
The local governments will also provide incentives to help villagers reduce expenses.
"Impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic in the first half of this year, the sale of electric vehicles dropped by drastic 200,000 vehicles. Therefore, we hope to make up for the loss resulting from the epidemic by selling the vehicles in the rural areas," said Fu Bingfeng, executive vice president of the association.
According to experts, sales of electric vehicles began rehabilitative growth, with that in June growing by 26.8 month-on-month.
It was learned that the campaign of bringing electric vehicles down to the countryside will also be held in cities of Haikou, Kunming, Chengdu and Taiyuan.
