Qingdao tourism recovers during Mid-Autumn holiday

The tourism market in Qingdao, a popular tourism destination in Shandong province, experienced a stable recovery over the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, local media reported.

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month and is a celebration of the moon. This year, the festival took place on Sept 21. Since ancient times, it has been customary for Chinese to reunite with family members and enjoy a sweet mooncake while observing the moon on this occasion.

According to statistics from the Qingdao municipal bureau of culture and tourism, about 397,700 trips were made to the city's 66 A-level scenic spots over the three-day holiday, generating a tourism revenue of 9.23 million yuan ($1.43 million).

During the holiday, Laoshan Mountain, a renowned scenic area in Qingdao, received 30,200 tourists. The Qingdao Undersea World received 9,700 tourists. The Qingdao Polar Ocean World received 12,300 tourists. The coastal scenic area received 121,500 tourists. The Qingdao Fantawild Dreamland received 755,000 tourists, while the Tsingtao Beer Museum received 10,200 tourists.

Short-distance tours and theme parks, were favored by travelers, said Qingdao officials. Many Qingdao citizens enjoyed the holiday with their families in the rural areas.

"My family had a different kind of Mid-Autumn Festival at rural homestay in Laoshan district," said local citizen surnamed Liu. "We enjoyed the local delicacy and admired the moon by the sea. It was an unforgettable experience."

The city's scenic areas and cultural venues also hosted a series of activities to celebrate the traditional festival.

The city also tightened epidemic prevention and control measures before and during the festival to ensure the safety of travelers.
