Thanks to its geographic location, the city of Chengdu boasts a number of world-class sites for red leaves appreciation in the vicinity.
Autumn has the most splendid display of colors in the year as chilly winds turn the forests into a palette of red, pink, yellow, golden and brown. Miyaluo is one of the largest red-leave appreciating sites in China, with an expansive area of nearly 3, 000 sq.km providing a grand view of the colored trees.
Each year, the Red Leaves Festival is held in Lixian County and attracts thousands of people to come to watch the splendid views of red leaves, see the old buildings of local residents and take baths in nearby hot springs.
The Donglashan Canyon is located in Baoxing County, Ya'an City, some 237km from Chengdu.
