The aquatic wildlife reserve, located at Baihetan national wetland park in south Chengdu’s Xinjin County, was brought under construction on February 7.

The reserve, which is the first one of its kind in western China and the third in the country, is aimed to conserve and breed endangered aquatic species, endemic species as well as species with high economic value in Chengdu. And it has been projected to include a museum exhibiting living aquatic creatures and aquatic specimens, and simulating their habitats.

The construction will be completed and open to the public in half a year, especially to primary and secondary students, according to related officials. The reserve is expected to popularize the knowledge about aquatic wildlife and raise people's awareness of wildlife protection.
