Xiling Snow Mountain, a popular skiing site near Chengdu, is hosting its first alpine flower festival from May 11 to August 31.

When lowland areas start to experience summer heat, the mountain enters its spring season in May, with a diversity of native plants in florescence, including alpine rhododendron, dove tree, cutleaf coneflower, and corn poppy.

Transplanted since 2013, three species in the Primulaceae family known for their tiered arrangement of flowers – mealy cowslip, Primula bulleyana and Primula aurantiaca – now cover an area of 10,000 square meters and present vibrant colors as they enter flowering seasons.

Besides plentiful flower admiring opportunities, other activities such as grass skating, camping, and stargazing are also available on the site.

Certain scenic areas will be open to the public for free on certain days in May and June to celebrate China’s National Tourism Day and China’s Cultural Heritage Day.

The organizer will also present beautiful primroses at a garden to open at the Kuanzhai Xiangzi cultural block in Chengdu to benefit the local residents.
