Hundreds of residents took to the Beilin Greenway in Wenjiang district of Chengdu city on July 5 to mark its inauguration.

Flanked by thick vegetation, the 65km greenway runs through a bevy of scenic spots, parks, villages and healthcare projects in northern Wenjiang, echoing the district's goals of developing modern agriculture, medical care and tourism.

The roads are built to high standards suiting marathons and cycling. Adding more charm to sports enthusiasts of all ages are a number of sports facilities such as football fields and sports parks along the way.

As the first batch of the greenway's experiencers on July 5, the residents took part in a variety of events including jogging, cycling, a cultural fair and a photography contest.

"It (the greenway) is great. Beautiful setting, convenient traffic and fresh air. It is perfect for weekends, whether for an outing or a workout," said a resident surnamed Wang.
