Fortune Global 500 Company Gilead Sciences Makes Presence in Chengdu

Up to now, Chengdu has been home to 288 Fortune Global 500 companies.

On July 10, Gilead Sciences, an American biopharmaceutical company, signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the establishment of its western China operation center with Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (CDHT).

Founded in 1987, Gilead Sciences is dedicated to discovering, developing and commercializing innovative therapeutics in areas of unmet medical need. It ranked 455th on the list of Fortune Global 500 companies in 2018.

The operation center in Chengdu will focus on the company's operations in China's western region, in hope of driving the development of biomedicine industry in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, even in central and western China.

"Chengdu is highly business friendly, and attaches great importance to the development of the medical industry. I hope that our company could cooperate with it in scientific research and pharmaceutical production in the future, so as to bring more good medicines to patients," said Mr. Gregg Alton, Chief Patient Officer with Gilead Sciences.

Chengdu, with an ever improving business climate, has become an ideal destination for foreign investment. Up to now, the city has been home to 288 Fortune Global 500 companies.
