Since the start of the 2019 Chengdu World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) on August 8, all competitions have been in full swing in various venues here in the city.

On the morning of August 13, 125 participants from 14 countries and regions competed fiercely in Firefighter Steeplechase, the second competition in the fire fighting category at the Tianfu New Area's fire and rescue brigade,

As a new competition for the WPFG, Firefighter Steeplechase was initiated by the Chengdu Organizing Committee of the 2019 WPFG after careful consideration, with the aim to highlight the operability and innovation of the event.

The contestants were grouped according to their gender, region of origin and age, and the competition included individual and team matches. The firefighters from China won a total of 8 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals, among which 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals (including 1 bronze in team competition) were achieved by those from Hong Kong SAR.

"The registration this year showed that the competition was highly popular with high rate of participation. It's possible to keep this item at the next WPFG," said Mr. Alan V Richards, a WPFG executive committee member.
