God said to Moses, ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy (Leviticus 19:1-10) God calls His people to learn to love as God loves, for example, God taught people leave the edges of their fields unharvested, providing food for travelers and the poor to have.

We looked at how God’s presence is essential as we face the challenges of daily life.

We explored how Gods presence is essential as we face the challenges of daily life.

We will see that God’s command to be holy permeates life and is only adequately expressed through our whole being.  There are at least three parts to explain:

Holiness Begins with the Ten Commandments: 利未記 read Leviticus 19:1-4

The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: 'Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.

Each of you must respect his mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.

Do not turn to idols or make gods of cast metal for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.

20:1-17)To be holy as God is holy, it is to keep the Ten Commandments (Leviticus20:1-17).

All Ten summarize the basic ethical responsibilities for those who are dedicated to holy living.

The first four commandments (Leviticus20:1-11) define our vertical responsibilities to God as we love Him with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength (Deuteronomy 6:4).

The last six (Exodus 20:12-17) define our horizontal commitments to others which are captured in Leviticus with the command: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus19:18). For Jesus, the whole Law, and thus the essence of holy living itself, can be summarized by this call to love God and to love others (Matthew 22:37-39; Mark 12:30-31; Luke 10:27) & Commentary from the Faith Connection p.46 by William Malas Jr. is professor of Biblical Literature and the Chair of the Department of Religion at Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, MA.

Holy Worship Must Be Done God’s Way: 利未記Leviticus 19:5-8請讀:

When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the LORD, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up. If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted. Whoever eats it will be held responsible because he has desecrated what is holy to the LORD; that person must be cut off from his people.

Commentary from the Faith Connection p.47 –

Leviticus 19:5-8 which reminds God’s holy people to keep the Sabbath and to refrain from idolatry. Every generation, including our own, needs this reminder as we tend to put ourselves and our desires over God. Since the Israelites participated in this offering by eating what was sacrificed, they were not permitted to eat it after two days. If they ate the food on the third day, then the offering would lose its special significance. To keep it longer than that, they would have to prepare it for storage like any other common food that they had. While it would be tempting to not let this food go to waste, treating what once was deemed a holy sacrifice as now a common thing in their lives could easily become the pattern for how they related to God as well.

Think about it: Holiness is more than the difference between moral and immoral, good and bad. Holiness is the concept of being set apart by God for God.

‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.

This law was a protection for the poor and the alien (foreigner) and a reminder that God owned the land; the people were only caretakers. As people of God, the Israelites were to reflect his nature and characteristics in their attitudes and actions.

2:2) and Naomi were two people who benefited from this merciful law (Ruth 2:2).

God taught the Hebrews and us to provide for those in need.

He required that the people leave the edges of their fields unharvested, providing food for travelers and the poor. It is Easy to ignore the poor or forget about those whole.

4.      Conclusions:

Respect parents,
Worshipping God not idol.
(20:1-17) Keeping the Ten Commandments  with the holy living (20:1-17)
Caring others (Le.19:18)

God’s plan has always been to create a holy people.
