Throughout the letter Paul has expressed confidence.  He has confidence in Jesus and what His Spirit can do through you. This lesson might be applied in three ways. First, quit bragging about your status, skills, or success. Second, find out what is being wasted in your life. Paul says for the sake of Christ he has lost all things. Paul says he considers ¡§everything a loss.¡¨ There are some things in our lives that are not inherently bad, but are distractions from us knowing Christ. Third, learn to boast in Jesus Christ. If we are going to talk about how great someone is, may it be our talk about God and not ourselves!

We will see the importance of taking our eyes off self  and looking to Christ¡¦s example as the model of living out our faith.

  1. and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.
  2. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead...

Be careful of considering past achievements so important that they get in the way of your relationship with Christ.

V.8, «Où¦^ÅU¥L¹L¥h©Ò°µªº¤@¤Á¡AµM«áÂ_¨¥»P»{ÃÑ°ò·þ¬Û¤ñ¡A³£¬O ¡§¦³·lªº¡¨¡C³o¯u¬O¤@Ó·N¨ý²`ªøªº»ùÈÆ[©À: ¤@Ó¤H»P°ò·þªºÃö«Y¡A¤ñ¥ô¦óªF¦è³£«n¡C»{ÃÑ°ò·þ¬O§ÚÌªº³Ì²×¥Ø¼Ð¡C½Ð¬Ý±zªº»ùÈÆ[¡A±z»P°ò·þªºÃö«Y¡A¬O¤£¬O³Ì«nªº©O¡H°²Y±z¥»¥½Ë¸m¤F¡A±z±N¦p¦ó«·s½Õ¾ã¡HAfter Paul considered everything he had accomplished in his life, he said that it was all ¡§a loss¡¨ when compared with the greatness of knowing Christ. This is a profound statement about values: a person¡¦s relationship with Christ is more important than anything else. To know Christ should be our ultimate goal. Consider your values. Do you place anything above your relationship with Christ? If your priorities are wrong, how will you reorder them?

V.9, 10, «Où¬°¤F»{ÃÑ°ò·þ©MÍ¢´_¬¡ªº¤j¯à¡A©ñ±ó¤F¤@¤Á : ®a®x¡B¤Í½Ë©M¦Û¥Ñ¡C§ÚÌ¤]¯à»{Ãѳoª¾ÃÑ©M¯à¤O¡A¦ýn¥R¤Àªº¨É¨ü¥¦´N¥²¶·§@¥XÄ묹¡C±zÄ@·N¬°¤F»{ÃÑ°ò·þ¦Ó©ñ±ó¤°»ò¶Ü¡HÄ@·N¦b¨C¤Ñ·Ð¦£ªº¥Í¬¡¤¤¼·Y¤z¤ÀÁé¨Óë§iŪ¸g¶Ü¡H±z¬O§_Ä@·N©ñ±óªB¤ÍªºÆgÅA¡A©ñ±ó¬Y¨Çp¹º©Î®T¼Ö¡H¤£ºÞ¤°»ò¡A¬°¤F»{ÃÑ°ò·þ¡A³o¤@¤ÁÄ묹³£¬O¦³»ùÈªº¡CPaul gave up everything-family, friendship, and freedom ¡V in order to know Christ and his resurrection power. We too have access to this knowledge and this power. But we may have to make sacrifices to enjoy it fully. What are you willing to give up in order to know Christ? You have a crowded schedule in order to set aside a few minutes each day for prayer and Bible study? Give up Your friend¡¦s approval? Give up some of your plans or pleasures? Whatever it is, knowing Christ is more than worth the sacrifice. V.10, when we are united with Christ by trusting in Him, we experience the power that raised him from the dead. That same mighty power will help us live morally renewed and regenerated lives. But before we can walk in newness of life, we must also die to sin. Just as the resurrection of Jesus, gives us Christ¡¦s power to live for him.

V.11, «Où¼g: ¡§©ÎªÌ§Ú¤]±o¥H±q¦ºùØ´_¬¡¡¨ ¡A¤£¬O¥L¤£ªÖ©w©ÎÃhºÃ¦Û¤v¯à§_´_¬¡¡A¦Ó¬O¹ï¨£¥Dªº¤è¦¡¤£½T©w: ¬O³Q³B¨M¡AÁÙ¬O¦Ñ¦º¡H¦]¬°³o¬O¥Ñ¤W«Ò¨M©wªº¡C C¿q°ò·þ¦b´_¬¡¥H«á³Q°ªÁ|¤@¼Ë¡A¦³¤@¤Ñ§ÚÌ¤]¯à¤À¨É°ò·þªººaÄ£(°Ñ±Ò22:1-7)¡C«OùÁöµMª¾¹D¦Û¤v§Y±NÂ÷¥@¡A¦ý¤]¹ï¦Û¤vªº´_¬¡¥Rº¡¤F«H¤ß¡C

When Paul wrote, ¡§somehow¡¨, to attain to the resurrection¡¨ he was not implying uncertainty or doubt. He was unsure of the way that he would meet God, whether by execution or by natural death. He did not doubt that he would be raised, but attainment of it was within God¡¦s power and not his own. Jesus as Christ was exalted after his resurrection, so we will one day share Christ¡¦s glory (Revelation 22:1-7). Paul knew that he might die soon, but he had faith that he would be raised to life again.

This goal absorbs all Paul¡¦s energy. This is a helpful example for us. We should not let anything take our eyes off our goal-knowing Christ. With the single -mindedness of an athlete in training, we must lay aside everything harmful and for sake anything that may distract us from being effective Christians what is holding you back?

Instead, grow in the knowledge of God by concentrating on your relationship with him now. Realize that you are forgiven, and then move on to a life of faith and obedience. We may feel so far from perfect that we can never please God with our lives. Paul use perfect (3:12) to mean mature or complete, not flawless in every detail. Those who are mature should press on in the Holy Spirit¡¦s power, knowing that Christ will reveal and fill in any discrepancy between what we are and what we should be. Christ¡¦s provision is no excuse for lagging devotion, but it provides relief and assurance for those who feel driven.

This did not mean, of course, that they should copy everything he did; he had just stated that he was not perfect (3:12). But as he focused his life on being like Christ, so should they. The Gospels may not yet have been in circulation, so Paul could not tell them to read the Bible to see what Christ was like. Therefore he urged them to imitate him, That Paul could tell people to follow his example is a testimony to his character. Can you do the same? What kind of follower would a new Christian become if he or she imitated you?
