Commentary: Paul uses the phrase ¡§in Christ Jesus¡¨ in verse one. This is a key idea  in all of Paul¡¦s writing. Whatever we are to do and be as God¡¦s people, it happens ¡§in Christ.¡¨

What does it mean to be ¡§in Christ?¡¨ Do you think it is possible to be a Christian or a church and not be ¡§in Christ¡¨? It is important to see that any effort to live as Christians in name only, not rooted in a daily walk with Jesus, is doomed to failure and that can do significant damage to the work of the kingdom in the world. The only way to be genuinely faithful and holy is to be ¡§in Christ.¡¨

Ephesians 1:3-6, ¡§Praise is to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4-5, For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will¡X6. To the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

¸Ñ¸gCommentary: ¸ü¦ÛÆF×ª©, ¥H¥±©Ò®Ñ519¶, Commentary of v.3-6, from N.I.V.                                                                                  v.3, ¡§Í¢¦b°ò·þ¸Ì¡B´¿½çµ¹§ÚÌ¤Ñ¤W¦U¼ËÄÝÆFªººÖ®ð¡D ¡§·N¦®¦b°ò·þ¸Ì±§ÚÌ±o¨ì»{ÃѤW«Òªº¦U¼Ë¦n³B :»X¯«´z¿ï±o±Ï¡B¦¨¬°¯«ªº¨à¤k¡B±o³j¸o¡B¦³´¼¼z©M¸tÆFªº®¦½ç¡B¦³¿í¦æ¤W«Ò¦®·Nªº¯à¤O¡B¤S¦³»P¥D¦P¦bªº¬ß±æ¡C§ÚÌ¸ò°ò·þ¤§ºò±KÃö«Y, ¨Ï§ÚÌ²{¦b¥i¥H¨É¨ü¦¹µ¥ºÖ®ð¡C¡§¤Ñ¤W¡¨¬O«ü³o¨ÇºÖ®ð¬O¥Ã»·ªº ³o¨ÇºÖ®ð¨Ó¦Û°ò·þÄÝÆFªº°ê«×¡C(°Ñ1:20;2:6; 3:10)

v.3, ¡§Who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing¡¨ means that in Christ we have all the benefits of knowing God-being chosen for salvation, being adopted as his children, forgiveness, insight, the gifts of the Spirit, power to do God¡¦s Will, the hope of living forever with Christ. Because we have an intimate relationship with Christ, we can enjoy these blessings now.

The heavenly realm means that these blessing are eternal, not temporal. The blessing come for Christ¡¦s spiritual realm, not the earthly realm of the goodness  (see1:20;2:6; 3:10)¡C

v.4, ¤W«Ò´z¿ï§ÚÌ, ¬O¨Ì¾ÚÍ¢ªºp¹º, §ÚÌ±o±Ï¨Ã¤£¬O¦]¬°§ÚÌ°t±o, §ÚÌ¤£¥i¥H¦Û¤vªº±o±Ï¦Ó¸ó¤f, ¤Þ¥H¬°¶Æ¡C¬O«ÜÃø¤F¸Ñ¤W«Ò¯à±µ¨ü§ÚÌ, ¦ý¦]¬°C¿q, ¦bC¿q¸Ì±§ÚÌ¬O¯Â¼ä¡B©MµL¦³·å²«¡C¤W«Ò´z¿ï§ÚÌ, ·í§ÚÌ¸gC¿qÄÝ©ó¤W«Ò¡C¤W«Ò¬Ý§ÚÌ´N¦p§ÚÌ¨S¦³°µ¹L¿ù¨Æ, §ÚÌ©Òn°µ¹ï¤W«Ò¤§·Rªí¥Ü·P®¦¡C

God chose us, saved us according to His plan; there is no way to take credit for our salvation or to allow room for pride. It is hard to understand how God could accept us. But because of Christ, we are holy and blameless in his sight. God chose us, and when we belong to him through Jesus Christ, God looks at us as if we had never sinned. All we can do is express our thanks for his wonderful love.

v. 5, ¡§¹w©w¡¨ ¬O¨Æ¥ý¨M©w. ´«¥y¸Ü»¡, ±Ï®¦¬O¤W«Ò¤§¤u§@, ¦Ó¤£¬O§ÚÌ¦Û¤v¤§¦æ¬°¡C¤W«ÒÂÇC¿q¤§Ä묹, ±a»â§ÚÌ¶i¤J¯«ªº®a, ¡§¬J¬O¨à¤k¡B«K¬O«á¶à¡B´N¬O¡@¯«ªº«á¶à¡B©M°ò·þ¦P§@«á¶à¡D¦pªG§ÚÌ©MÍ¢¤@¦P¨üW¡B¤]¥²©MÍ¢¤@¦P±oºaÄ£¡X(ù°¨8:17)¡C¡¨«ö·Óù°¨ªk«ß, ¾i¤l©M¿Ë¥Í¤l¨É¦³¦P¼Ë¤§Åv§Q, «Où´N¥Î³o¤è¦¡, ªí¹F§ÚÌ»P¤W«Ò¤§¿Ë±KÃö«Y¡C±z¬O§_¤w¸g»P¤W«Ò«Ø¥ß³oºØ·R¤§Ãö«Y©O? (¦³Ãö ¡§¦¬¯Ç¡¨½Ð°Ñ¦Ò:5-7¸`) ¡C

¡§Predestined¡¨ means marked out beforehand. Salvation is God¡¦s work and not our own doing. In His infinite love, God has adopted us as his own children. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, he has brought us into his family and made us heirs along with Jesus. (Romans 8:17) In Romans law, adopted children had the same rights and privileges as biological children, even if they had been slaves. Paul uses this term to show how strong our relationship to God is.

V.6, ¡§Freely given us in the One he loves¡¨ means that God graciously accepts us (though we don¡¦t deserve it) now that we belong to his dearly loved Son.

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. 8, that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 and he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ. 10 To be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

v. 7, 8, Grace is God¡¦s voluntary and loving favor given to those he saves. We cannot earn salvation, nor do we deserve it. No religious, intellectual, or moral effort can pain it, because it comes only from God¡¦s mercy and love. Without God¡¦s grace, no person can be saved. To receive it, we must acknowledge that we cannot save ourselves, that only God can save us, and that our only way to receive this loving favor is through faith in Christ.

v. 9, 10, God was not intentionally keeping his plan a secret, but his plan for the world could not be fully understood until Christ rose from the dead. His purpose for sending Christ was to unite Jews and Gentiles in one body with Christ as the head. Many people still do not understand God¡¦s plan; but when the time is right, he will bring us together to be with him forever. Then everyone will understand. On that day, all people will bow to Jesus as Lord, either because they love him or because they fear his power (see Philippians 2:10, 11).

v. 11-12 God¡¦s purpose is to offer salvation to the world, just as he planned to do long ago. God is sovereign; he is in charge. When your life seems chaotic, rest in this truth: Jesus is Lord, and God is in control. God¡¦s purpose to save you cannot be thwarted, no matter what evil Satan may bring.

v.13, 14 The Holy Spirit is God¡¦s seal that we belong to him and his deposit quarantining that he will do what he has promised. The holy Spirit is like a down payment, a deposit, a validating signature on the contract. The presence of Holy Spirit in us demonstrated the genuineness of our faith, proves that we are God¡¦s children, and secures eternal life for us. His power works in us to transform us now, and what we experience now is a taste of the total change we will experience in eternity.

Conclusion: When we are caught up in the humdrum (³æ½Õªº¡B¤é±`¨Æ°È) activity of our usual week, or in the midst of the crisis, we often focus our attention on our immediate surroundings. Many times, they are less than ideal. But a renewed vision of the scale and grandeur of God¡¦ purposes for His universe, including us, helps restore perspective. Even in the midst of the most trying circumstances, the Christian has an unconquerable hope. The presence of the Spirit in the church and in our personal lives is God¡¦s pledge that He will ultimately bring our redemption to completion.
