Qingdao “digs for gold” in biomass energy

Nancun town of Pingdu of Qingdao is a famous pickle export base in China. The cabbage rubbish it produces every year exceeds processing ability of the town and becomes its headache. Seen from the perspective of the whole Pingdu city, as an important city of agricultural and husbandry of Qingdao, straw and animal excrement it generated far exceeds its processing ability, bringing hug pressure to eco-protection, production, and sanitation.

Biomass energy project, which is a kind of eco-friendly new energy used for livelihood, is an effective way of solving the problem. In 2016, a large biomass energy project jointly built by Qingdao Huatong Group and Qingdao Energy Group settled down in Nancun town of Pingdu city. The project uses patented technologies developed by Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, China Academy of Sciences and makes use of straw and wasted vegetables produced in Pingdu city and neighboring areas as main materials to produce bio natural gas and bio organic fertilizer. Its annual production can meet demand of about one year’s use of two Nancun towns. (Zhang Miaomiao)
