Qingdao developed “breathable” graphene
wall paint
Here are two crystal glass boxes A and B of
the same size. Place a board painted with special paint at the bottom of box B,
place an air detector in each box, and seal the boxes with plastic film. Then
inject the same quantity of formaldehyde solution into them. Air detectors in
both boxes instantly detected the volatile formaldehyde. However, 5 hours
passed, air detectors in two boxes showed huge difference. The formaldehyde in
the box B, the bottom board of which was painted, reduced by 50%, while the air
inside the other box didn’t change.
In Qingdao ReaLeader Advanced Materials Co
Ltd, located in Qingdao New High-Tech Zone, such a simple experiment shocked
people. The deputy general manager Wang Xiaofei explained, it is the special
paint in the box B making the difference, which is the 6-in-1 smart indoor
paint developed by the company based on graphene materials.
Dr. Hou Shifeng, the president of the
company, the leader of the project and expert of the Recruitment Program of
Global Experts, had been devoted to Nano new materials development and its
application in environment and energy fields. Since 2009, he has turned eyes to
graphene new materials; in particular, owning international research patents in
graphene compound Nano materials. After research and experiment at the initial
stage, he found the paint industry was easy for graphene to apply. So the
company turned from the direction of graphene new materials research to the
paint field.
Anti-formaldehyde paint developed by
ReaLeader Advanced Materials, according to Hou,“can decompose the formaldehyde
in air indoor into water and CO2, and degrade air pollutant such as nitric
oxide. That means the paint will not cause indoor formaldehyde pollution, and
also plays like an air purifier to decompose formaldehyde in the air. Painting
the paint on the wall enables the wall to be breathable. It is the formaldehyde
the wall breathes in.” (Ren Xiaomeng)
