Immigrant Children Not Allowed To Play

Warren Chu

Apartment Complexes that cater to large immigrant families have begun to ban immigrant children from playing outside. Landlords claim the reason for these bans are noise and unruly conduct. Landlords have imposed fines and some have even evicted some families who allow children outside.

Apartment managers say that immigrants allow their children to play unsupervised. They say that this will discourage people from moving in. Legal experts say that landlords can’t ban children form playing on the apartment property, but they can ban tenants from using all outdoor space. Fines for playing outside range form $25 to $150. “What’s going on with these kids is completely unfair,” said Cristina Jose, director of family programs at Latino Health Access, a non-profit organization in Santa Ana.

This is stopping kids from getting the proper exercise that one needs. You can’t stop a child from getting the proper exercise they need.
